Maine Beer Company
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner …. pizza.
You come in through a black barn, and the entrance is already inviting.
The beer is the legend here. Lunch turns up on taps all over now, but for Dinner you still have to come to the source, we feel. The names are not whimsy. Lunch is a real fin whale, spotted off the Maine coast since 1982, with a bite taken out of her fin, and the brewery named its flagship after her and has given millions to whale research since. That is why a fifty-foot skeleton hangs over the room: a second whale, Finny, that washed ashore on Thanksgiving 2023. The story is captivating, and it explains the bones above your head.
The space is modern but not overwhelming. Clean lines, decent seating, a huge lot outside, all done elegantly and clean. You can sit upstairs or down on the floor level, right next to the huge pizza oven.
The food is great. The pizza comes off that oven and carries the visit beyond a beer stop.
The beer tap deserves a word too: the white handle, iconic, a small thing that has become a signature.
A solid enterprise, but not too much in your face. You come for the beer, and you eat better than you expected.
